What's New in the District?
  • The People's Garden ~ The Lac qui Parle SWCD installed a native planting on their tree building property in June, 1995.  At that time, 53 different native species were planted, and MN DNR has provided periodic controlled burns for maintenance. The purpose of this planting is to educate the public of the benefits of planting native species.  SWCD, NRCS, and FSA staff will be working together on the upkeep of the planting, and showcase the phenology of the native planting throughout the year by providing weekly updates on species currently in bloom. Click here  to see what was first to bloom each week!

  • Radio Talk Show ~ Every Wednesday morning,  tune in to KLQP (Radio, 92.1 FM) around 9:15 am.  You will hear all about  programs, projects, and current events effecting the resources in Lac qui Parle County.

  • Granite Outcrop ~ Recently funded through a Legislative Citizens Committee on Minnesota Resources Grant, 75 acres of fragile Minnesota Valley Granite Outcrop rock ecosystems in Lac qui Parle County will be protected with a permanent easement.  Among the oldest rock formations in the world, these unique land forms and rare vegetation make these rock formations worth protecting.

  • Native Buffer Cost-share Program ~ Cost share available to establish or maintain diverse native grasses/forbs used as buffers, stormwater treatment, wellhead protection, remnant prairie restoration, or CREP/RIM enhancements.  Unless protected by an easement, may be hayed or harvested for seed.  Ask for details!

  • Clean Water Legacy Project / Hwy 31 Complete!  Click here for project details and photos.

The Lac qui Parle Soil and Water Conservation District is an Equal Opportunity Service Provider and Employer
